The fleece is genuinely soft, not that scratchy stuff you usually get. I fit my laptop, water bottle, and a hoodie in the main compartment, and the front zip pocket keeps my keys from disappearing. The chest strap actually helps when it's loaded up.
Took this on a weekend hike and the chest strap made a real difference on the steeper bits. The side pockets actually fit my water bottle, which never happens.
